Warhammer: In the Name of Ashes

Chapter 9 Letters from Afar

"The wind is blowing and the clouds are flying! The chainsaw sword is blowing to pieces!"

The first day of training: An empty training ground, in front of the square formation of the political commissar training class.

An instructor who clearly came from the Storm Star Territory in the northwest of the empire spoke passionately in his rich local accent.

Saliva and breath spurted out from his big mouth under his messy beard at the same time, completely uncontrollably.

At the climax of the story, the instructor even ignored the glances of his colleagues behind him and danced in front of the entire phalanx of students to sing the ridiculous lyrics above.

Calvin stood at the head of the political commissar formation on the training ground, his strong body like a rock "shielding" the comrades around him from the wind and rain.

While the instructor turned around, Calvin quickly wiped the spittle from his face with his sleeve.

He continued to maintain a serious expression as his comrades next to him paid tribute to him.

And the speech continues:

"On the battlefield! What is your most reliable partner?"

"Do you have psychic powers that don't work at all times? What do you do when you use them up? Surrender? Only sissies live by their psychic powers!"

"The most reliable person on the battlefield is yourself!"

"At any time, the biceps are the most trustworthy weapons! The chain sword is your most secure wife!"

Under the rising sun at 6 a.m. Terra time, Calvin and his classmates' minds went blank.

The only thing I can remember is the crystal clear saliva hanging on the instructor's face with a messy beard...

Until the instructor began to give the order: "Target left front runway, 20 kilometers sprint! There is no time limit, but the last 10 people will not have dinner!"

Run, keep running, run to death. From morning to night, even lunch was served in a temporary mobile canteen set up next to the playground.

This is the first lesson the teacher teaches them. In his original words:

"You can't even lift your legs and you still want to kill someone? You're thinking too much!"

Many students collapsed and fell into coma due to violent vomiting, and were then carried off by medical staff.

But there are still some clever students who have begun to use psychic powers to cheat, using psychic powers to relieve the accumulated lactic acid in their muscles while running, or try to use psychic powers to calm the already chaotic breathing rhythm, and also use psychic powers to give themselves direction while running. forward thrust in order to reduce physical exertion...

In short, the Eight Immortals crossed the sea and showed their magical powers, but the instructor ignored them all, which made the students finally understand the instructor's intention:

The instructor hopes that they understand that the application of psychic powers is far from limited to fighting on the battlefield.

And it can be used in every aspect on the battlefield and in daily life to enhance oneself and reduce consumption.

Then the cheating became completely public. Various methods of applying psychic energy began to appear openly among the running crowds.

Calvin is inconspicuous among them, but his service career in his previous life has given him sufficient experience to allocate his physical strength reasonably.

After holding on until someone started using psychic powers to cheat, Calvin suddenly realized.

He began to observe and reflect on the application of psychic energy in running.

At first, Calvin tried to use psychic energy to relieve muscle fatigue, but soon found that this was too inefficient.

The consumption of dynamic psychic energy is much greater than that of static energy.

So he began to imitate the running shoes he saw in his previous life: setting up a curved elastic force field under his military boots, which greatly relieved the pressure on Calvin's ankles. Moreover, the consumption of psychic energy during this process is almost negligible.

Then, he began to imitate the exoskeleton of the artillery unit in his previous life, so that the burden brought by his own weight on the skeleton was fully shared on the transparent psychic skeleton outside the body.

At the last hour, he even benefited from the basic compulsory education in his previous life and began to try to use fluids to reduce frontal wind resistance and then try to take advantage of wind resistance.

Calvin's running efficiency has been greatly improved. Especially after the frontal psychic cone he constructed took shape, he was even able to maintain a sprint speed of 100 meters for long-distance running with extremely low consumption.

The instructor, who had been ignoring the students' little moves, laughed angrily when he saw Calvin leading the way in the crowd.

"They are just a bunch of smart people!"

He raised his hand and looked at his watch, then blew the whistle.

"Review!"

After all the students had gathered, the instructor stood in front of the square and said loudly with a grin.

"Those who are being clever like this today will not do it again! It's okay to let your brains open up. But it's not okay to take your cleverness as the right path! Starting tomorrow morning, in all physical training subjects, the use of psychic energy is limited to recovery and disbanded!"

The above is the entire life of Calvin on his first day in the Psychic Seminary. In the days that followed, under the training of his instructors, Calvin became more and more inclined to use psychic energy as a tool for physical development.

Using psychic energy to repair at the muscle fiber level makes Calvin's body stronger.

The rapid recovery ability also gives Calvin more opportunities to push his physical fitness to the limit.

His muscle fibers naturally become stronger as they are continually being torn and repaired.

The afterglow of the growth spurt brought about by the secondary mutation is also silently enhancing the strength of his bones.

In the simple training life of the next month, Calvin enjoyed the simple military life that he had never dreamed of in his previous life.

This is the life he has always longed for in his dreams, and it is also a rare and beautiful memory that he will have when he continues to face various extreme environments on the battlefield.

Perhaps such strength training is too simple for him. He is not unaware that it is a waste to use the huge power in his hands only as a tool to restore and develop the body.

But compared to his asymmetrically powerful spiritual power, it is indeed a helpless choice for him to develop as much physical upper limit as possible with limited means.

The political commissar class begins teaching weapons courses in the second month. During this period, Calvin had completely mastered most of the weapon parameters and conventional operating procedures involved in basic infantry tactics.

In the third month, which was also when the political commissar class began to really involve the training of core technologies, that is, the knowledge of the use of psychic powers, Calvin received a package from afar.

Calvin, who was called out in class, looked at the black package in his hand with a golden double-headed eagle badge and a line of gilded writing on it with a blank look on his face:

"Salute to the heroic naval warrior Sylvie Alonso." This was followed by the emblem of the Inquisition.

The scene fell into awkward silence. He didn't recognize the name on it, and he didn't know what his relationship was with it.

The person who delivered the package seemed to understand his situation, but obviously misunderstood the reason for his embarrassment. He said to Calvin:

"There is a letter in the package, you can read it when you are free. Although this does not bring good news, but on the throne, every warrior who has heroically sacrificed for the empire has the right to transfer his property to , leave it to your family.”

After saying that, the person who delivered the letter left, accompanied by the staff sent by the college to monitor him.

But what he left behind made Calvin even more confused. This was obviously not the name of any of his parents that he knew.

After class, Calvin finally had a chance to open the package in the dormitory.

The package was heavy. After opening it, a badge was found on top of a letter, and further down, a black relic box contained the entire contents.

The badge is as big as a palm. On the blue gilt badge is a ferocious lion with its mouth open and roaring. A variant of the ancient Latin letter Ψ, Puxi, is in the center of the lion's forehead.

Calvin weighed it and found that it was heavy. But he had no idea what this thing, which was more of a heraldry than a badge, represented.

He put the badge in his hand and continued to read the letter below. After opening the envelope, a piece of light gray letter paper slipped out:

"To my lovely little friend, when you read this letter, I should have returned to the throne of the emperor. I hope that the short time we got together did not make you forget our relationship, and we were quite happy getting along with each other on the black ship. And now that the war is coming, I really don’t have any other relatives or friends. After thinking about it, since things will not be used after death, they will always be given away. I hope you will not dislike it, your forever naval friend... Signed: Cyr. Via Alonso.”

So this chapter was actually rushed out, and I revised it as I posted it... But I was flattered by your enthusiasm. Someone started reading it just 5 minutes after posting it... My friend, you didn't see me revising the previous stuff, right?
